Project Description
The New York Library Association created the Sustainable Libraries Initiative (SLI) – an award-winning Sustainable Library Certification Program – the first of its kind in the world.
In their search for an award maker who valued sustainability and could create an award to match the honor, NYLA found Kiitella! I pondered and proposed a handful of designs and materials. The final design: a juxtaposition of beautifully weathered reclaimed barnwood and recycled hot rolled steel. The lasercut shape is based on the SLI logo – a design signifying the collaboration of three measures of sustainability: environmentally sound, socially equitable and economically feasible.
