Kiitella has been lucky enough to create awards for The North Face for years, but this one took the design in a totally different direction — for their new Specialty Retailer of the Year award (retailers that partner with them and impact their local outdoor communities). TNF wanted a retro nod to their Himalayan Suit, and when I got the drawings they sent, I could pretty much see it instantly as a trophy. The suit’s bold yellow and black, 2D, fashion aspect allowed for some fun artistic license — industrial design CAD drawing meets metal cutout.
The process: Two simple steel layers, a blackened detail layer riveted to a yellow background – a drawing brought to life. Thickening the lines really worked here. Congrats to Rock/Creek – recipients of the first Him Suit Trophy.
We continued with this style to create The North Face Base Camp Award—having some fun with the Base Camp Duffel.
